As an employer or self-employed individual, you are obliged by law to affiliate with a compensation fund.
The GastroSocial Compensation Fund is the association compensation fund for GastroSuisse, the professional association for the hotel and catering industry. The law (art. 64 Federal Law on Old Age and Survivors‘ Insurance, AHVG) states that members of a professional association must pay their contributions to the association‘s compensation fund. Conversely, you must be a member of a professional association if you wish to pay your contributions for 1st pillar insurance with GastroSocial.
If you do not work in the hotel and catering industry but would still like to pay your 1st pillar contributions through GastroSocial, please contact us and we will be pleased to advise you.

Signing up with the GastroSocial Compensation Fund
- Employer (legal entity)
Criteria for employer (legal entity)
Your company must be set up as one of the following and meet the conditions below for you to register with us as an employer (legal entity):
- Public limited company
- Limited liability company (SARL)
- Cooperative society
- Partnership limited by shares
- Public-sector entity
The legal entity bears the liability for the company. The partners or management is responsible for the operational management. The company is the contact person for the customers (e.g. Sample Ltd, Restaurant Example GmbH etc.).
- Sole proprietorship
Criteria for sole proprietorship
If you meet the following conditions you can register with us as a sole proprietorship:
- You manage a restaurant for your own account.
- You are solely responsible for the operational management.
- You use your own name and are the contact person for the customers (e.g. Sam Sample).
Criteria for partnership
Your company must be set up as one of the following and meet the conditions below for you to register with us as a partnership:
- Simple partnership
- General partnership
- Limited partnership
- Community of heirs
The company is managed by two or more persons (partners). The partners share the responsibility for the operational management as well as the liability.
The focus falls on the partnership, which is the contact person for the customers (e.g. Sample & Co., Example + Sample, Sample + Partners etc.). General partnerships and limited partnerships must be entered in the Commercial Register.
