Benefits (Rates)

A child allowance amounts to at least CHF 200.– per month. This amount applies for children up to the age of 16. For children who are incapable of working, the allowance is paid until the 20th birthday.

An education allowance amounts to at least CHF 250.– per month. This amount applies for children from the age of 16 until the end of their education, but at the latest until the age of 25.

The cantons can voluntarily decide on the payment of birth and adoption allowances.

Since 1 January 2013, self-employed individuals have been mandatorily subject to the Federal Act on Family Allowances. They are entitled to the same benefits as employees if they earn at least CHF 7’110.– per year.

Only one family allowance may be paid per child. Entitlement to benefits is governed by art. 7 FamZG.

The cantonal Family Compensation Fund at the place of residence is usually responsible for the payment of family allowances to persons who are not gainfully employed.

Click on your canton to call up its allowances. The amount of the allowances is determined by the canton where the employer of the entitled person has its registered office. The rates apply per child and are supplied without guarantee.
